Jewelea Rivas (2014) – Nonprofit Program Coordinator

Jewelea Rivas, (Ethnic Studies '14), nonprofit program coordinator

After graduating from Cal Poly, I have moved back to San Francisco to give back directly to my community. My full time job is working at the non-profit Seven Tepees Youth Program as the College and Career Center Site Coordinator. I provide on-site support to high school students, 8th-12th grade, as they prepare for post secondary plans.

In the future, I hope to continue working within the community in which I was born and raised, serving students who wish to pursue higher-education. In a few years, I would love to go back to school and obtain a Master's Degree.

My background in Ethnic Studies has prepared me to face issues surrounding race, class, and gender, head on! Through this education, I am constantly empowered to continue the good fight for positive change in my community. And for that, I am extremely grateful for Cal Poly's Ethnic Studies Program.
