About Victoria Siaumau

Victoria Siaumau graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a BA in Ethnic Studies and a BS in Child Development with a minor in Psychology. Victoria is pursuing their PhD in Ethnic Studies at UC San Diego. They are interested in US militarism in Oceania, militarized movement and pipelines, and Science and Technology Studies more broadly.  In addition to school, they work at Cal Poly as the lead advisor and programming coordinator for the Office of Student Research to support Cal Poly Students to Learn by Doing Research. Specifically, they are invested in supporting marginalized students to access research opportunities and pursue graduate degrees. Victoria also works as an Ethnic Studies consultant for K-12 teachers to build Ethnic Studies lesson plans that fulfill California state requirements as a part of the San Diego Ethnic Studies Oral History Editorial Collective. Victoria is also a part of a few research projects across Cal Poly's campus related to engineering education. At UC San Diego, Victoria is part of the Justice, Equity, and Transdisciplinary (JET) Computing Lab that aims to develop strategies and interventions that confront inequity in computing and technical design. Victoria strives to do all of this work in a way that would make the Cal Poly ES faculty, who have endlessly and unconditionally supported them throughout their education, proud.
