Internal Transfers Major in Comparative Ethnic Studies

As with all major programs in the College of Liberal Arts, the demand for the major in Comparative Ethnic Studies will be greater than the space available.

Criteria for internal transfer applicants:

  • Must have completed at least two quarters at Cal Poly.
  • Must not be on Academic Probation at the time of interview.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher OR a GPA of 2.5 or higher for the last two quarters. • Must have completed at least two (2) of the following Ethnic Studies courses: ES 112, ES 212, ES 241, ES 242, ES 243, ES 244, ES 320, ES 321, ES 322, and/or ES 323 with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must submit the following materials as a set to the Ethnic Studies Department:
    1. Change of Major Request form (available from the Records Office, 01-222).
    2. A one-page statement explaining reasons for wishing to change to the Comparative Ethnic Studies major.
    3. A copy of the unofficial transcript.
  • After completing the above, applicants must meet with the Department Chair individually.
  • For AY 2008-2009 applicants: The selection process will take place in early Spring 08. Applicants will be notified of the results before the course registration periods for Fall 08. If deemed necessary, a follow-up selection process will take place in early Fall 08 in time for registration for Winter 09.
