About Brian Stephens
Brian Stephens is a Ph.D. candidate in Ethnic Studies at University of California, Riverside. With a primary focus on visual culture his current research project examines the cultural and political uses of the queer hermeneutic “camp” in relationship to racial blackness. His most recent publication in Open Cultural Studies Journal utilized queer theory, feminist theory, and visual culture studies to demonstrate how visual artist Kara Walker deploys camp to disorient audiences perceived stability of racial and gender identity categories.
