About Unique Shaw-Dismuke

Dr. Unique Shaw-Dismuke, also known as Dr. U, identifies as a black mother, teacher, healer, scholar, and activist. As a trained Sociologist and Criminologist, her work in the classroom and in the community deconstructs narratives and processes of labeling to re-humanize traditionally marginalized groups. Her pedagogy fosters critical analysis of social definitions, ideologies, and perception. Her orientation towards inclusion and equity informs how she navigates and holds space for people to exercise their voice, engage ideologies of power, and examine bias.
