About Olivia Tran

Olivia has been at Cal Poly since 2019 working as the coordinator in the Gender Equity Center, but she's been gay and Asian for much longer than that. She was born and raised in the Bay Area, received her B.A. in History from UCLA, and then headed across the country to complete her M.Ed. at the University of Georgia. Olivia is interested in holding space for students to explore and honor their identities and experiences, as well as to understand the often-complex positions that they hold in a history of colonialism, white supremacy, and anti-Black racism in the United States. She is an avid believer in storytelling as a site of self-exploration and resistance, and if you've known her for long enough, she will end up telling you about how she cemented this philosophy during her time as a writer for a middle school girls' magazine.
